Beautiful for its gold colored thorns, brilliant in the sun. The stem segments (cladodes) are thin and elongated upwards. In nature it forms conspicuous trees while in pot the growth is very slow. Over time the stem wraps itself in a dense tangle of long thorns pointing downwards. Moderately rustic, it resists freezing for short periods.
